'Devils exist; but our ideas of them vary considerably.'
'But can one believe in the devil without believing in God?'
'Oh, yes; you come across it everywhere.' - Dostoyevsky, The Possessed
Following their last two sell-out productions at The Blue Room - The Reader (Blue Room Members' Choice Award 2004) and The Country (2005) - cutting-edge Perth independent theatre company Last Seen Imagining presents two harrowing visions from the mind of Dostoyevsky, The Grand Inquisitor and Stavrogi's Confession, adapted from his novels The Brothers Karamazov and The Possessed; visions which resonate uncannily today.
Christ reappears during the Inquisition, and is arrested and condemned to be burnt at the stake. A young man is tormented by hallucinations, and confesses to a hideous crime. What are the demons that haunt or possess us; and how can we resist them?
A performance on the edge of the abyss by one of Perth's leading actors - winner of Melbourne's 2006 Green Room Award for Best Male Actor (Fringe/Independent) - framed by evocative staging, sound and visuals.
